The Homestay
We enjoy hosting guests in our Taupō home during the Summer months. We live upstairs whilst sharing our large downstairs kitchen with our guests. We have two rooms downstairs, a twin and a queen room for our guests as well as a guests lounge area and games cupboard. Outside hanging seat area, large gardens and firepit.
Hospitality is the keyword that pops out from the reviews we have received from previous guests. Also, the opportunity to enjoy the homely kiwi lifestyle of edible gardens, fruit trees, tea and chats in the kitchen, lunch under the cherry tree, swims down at the Lake.
Guests have their own privacy although are welcome to chat and we can share our local knowledge of Taupō and even help with your itinerary or booking activities.
Homestay Testimonials
Great stay that felt just like being part of the family! Dierdre and her family were so welcoming and accommodating. Kitchen space is brilliant and the rooms are quiet and cosy. WiFi was fast and shower had great pressure.” Ele
“Deirdre, Richard and their three girls were amazing we felt like we were at home. They were so welcoming and their place is absolutely beautiful. Would highly recommend anyone to book it now no need to look any further. Had everything we needed and they couldn’t do more for you than they did. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome. From Chicken whisperer & equine lover 😂
The downside was that we couldn’t stay longer as we were travelling.” Chloe and Josh
“Dierdrei and her kids/husband were absolutely lovely hosts—they made me feel like I was part of the family! We got to go on a potato picking adventure in the back garden; and we had lots of deep grown-up conversations as well. I wasn't expecting such a personal and friendly level of service.” Robert S.
“Very welcoming owner - happy to accommodate our needs. Spotlessly clean and quiet. Easy to access.” Steve and Viv
“If you are looking for peaceful comfortable place with great location and friendly hosts, you’ve found it. I absolutely felt like home away from home. Garden was unbelievable, cherry tree, lemon tree, fennel, and so on. What a bliss, I’m so glad I ended booking this room, thank you so much x” Nina
“Everything was perfect. Great hosts in quiet but good reachable area. Clean room and nice shared kitchen.”
“Overall I really liked the hospitality that was shown by the host of Taupos Treat. Dierdrei was very welcoming and she attended to us all the time during our stay. The property gave us the feeling of home away from home and we enjoyed access to the backyard garden (I already miss feeding the chickens.) . The room and toilet was clean and well equipped. The owner was exceptionally generous for giving us a bag of fruits and vegetables from her garden to take home. Even though we only stayed for a night I would really recommend this place to other travelers who are looking for a place to stay in Taupo. Thank you Dierdrei and Family. We hope to see you again soon.” Dhin

A very friendly, loving family atmosphere. Our very hospitable host Dierdrei made us very welcome. It was interesting to find out about what it’s like to live here and about the values of local people. Loved the lemon tree, the hens and little blue eggs! Great Newsletter too.

The Host was so friendly and made us very welcome. Loved the Garden. Had a lovely cup of tea when we arrived and the next morning. Had the twin Bedroom which looked out to a pretty blossom tree, lemon tree and garden. Would be very happy to stay there again.
